This is Kobrin from William Horwood's pair of books The Wolves of Time. I've read these two books so many times and I just finished them again the other night. Every time I read them I'm always inspired to draw the characters and this time I actually did. Kobrin is from Russia and was more than just leader of his own pack - he commanded enough respect and authority so that all packs and their leaders over Russia are subordinate to him. He also represents the spirit of war and is a master tactician.
Although the wolves' physical characteristics as far as colour markings are never explained in GREAT detail, after looking through a book of wolves with many a photo, this is the closest to how I pictured him in my mind. So yes, I did use a reference. Probably spent about 1.5 hours on this but it was fun. I might do more animal pictures or some other characters from these books.
Holy Holy CRAP! That is good, you seriously drew that? You talented piece of poo poo XD I shall fave this because it totally rocks and stuff. Time to go visit your gallery..weh..

Thanks! Before I started I wasn't sure how well it'd turn out but I'm really pleased. As for the layer blending - it's all on the one layer apart from the background. I started off with a quick sketch, blocked in some colour and then just worked over and over and over the areas with lots of small strokes and voila! :3
